Dr. Daedalus Coppelius
Surname from Ballet Coppelia, first name from the the myth of Icarus
Age: Unknown, though he looks to be in his 60’s or 70’s. It is completely possible however, that he is much older or much younger than he appears as he has been conducting experiments to “create” life for years and this may have had any number of effects on his personal appearance.
Home: Lives in a beautifully decorated mansion in the middle of town. It is a house fit for a mad scientist (or evil doctor or a malevolent inventor) as it is filled with darkly twisting hallways and secret rooms. Coppelius rarely leaves his home, and spends most of his waking hours in his basement obsessing over one project or another. He is mostly nocturnal and spends his nights fixated on his need to master his power over life and death.
Lives With: Initially the Doctor lived alone; this lasted until he was finally able to “wake” Theo up, soon after Behemoth is assembled and then Mephisto joined the rest. It could be argued that after his automatons came to life that he still lived alone as they are very much robots.
Pets: The robot cat Behemoth is the only true ‘pet’ in the Coppelius household, though Theo definitely feels like a captive at best and is sometimes treated as though she were a pet.
Hobbies: Alchemy, translating tomes of ancient knowledge from dead languages, digging up newly dead corpses to use in his research, stealing neighborhood pets to see what he can make, collecting mammal skulls (yes, even human ones), rewiring the camera system in his house so that he can see everything that happens, even in the darkest shadows.
Education: His vast knowledge could be the natural result of an autodidacts years of study; though it seems that his depth of literacy in languages that include Aquitanian, Latin, Aramaic, Pictish, Yola, Gothic, and Old Prussian would indicate some kind of formal training. He is very much a scientist and an engineer and knows more about computers and robotics than anyone else.
Family: Because of the secrecy that surrounds him, no one knows what family Coppelius was born into, why he left them, or where they would be now. It could be argued that he is creating a family for himself with his automatons, albeit a family that he can (hopefully) completely control.
Skills: Sneakiness, frightening mere mortals, extreme manual dexterity, multi tasking, plotting, patience, building traps, keeping secrets…
Fears: Death frightens and motivates the doctor more than anything; he is looking to prolong his own life with his work, as much as he is looking to create new life. As he becomes used to his bots being in his home he becomes grudgingly attached to them, a fact that makes him angry with himself as having a family means that he has a family to lose.
